BANGALORE: Veteran sports journalist R Arvindam passed away on Saturday afternoon due to cardiac arrest. Arvindam, who was ailing for sometime, celebrated his 65th birthday on September 14. He is survived by his wife and two sons, both of whom are married.
Arvindam was a sports journalist in the true sense as he was at home covering every sport there is to. He was capable of producing a technical copy on most of the games.
He was one of the few who specialised in coverage of golf, billiards and snooker and was a pioneer in writing on motor sports. But for his enthusiasm, motor sport would never have got the boost it did in the 70’s and 80’s. Arvindam was a veritable one-man army on the sports desk, being adept in reporting, writing, editing and page-making.
Arvindam was one of the founder members of the Sports Writers Association of Bangalore, was a recipient of the Dasara Award and the KOA Awards. SWAB felicitated him this year for his services to sports journalism. SWAB mourned his death.
